    Houses are regularly built out of square with subfloor not in the space between the rim joist and the bottom plate in places and hanging over in others by half inch or so. Its normal and doesnt do anything other than require shims here and there to even the siding

    I've used painters tape to mask off the surrounding surfaces to facilitate straight line and also prevent the extra caulk. Probably not an issue though with smaller gaps.

    Amazing video thank you so much. We have an 1892 farm house that slopes pretty severely from north to south and we're trying to figure out what to do. Most of the rim joists (what remains of them) are below grade and very rotted. I think I'll have to dig down in order to get jacks underneath whatever remains. Far as I can tell there are no floor joists. It looks like they just laid wooden beams on the ground and put floorboards directly on top of them. Any particular tips for that situation? BTW this video is severely under-viewed! Should be in hundreds of thousands!!

      I just finished a similar job . Stacked concrete blocks and put the jack on top. With metal plate between Jack and beam. But I like your method much better. Especially because you stabilized the post above the jack. I didn't have a way to stabilize blocks and was constantly nervous about the stacked blocks Thanks

But I just ran the driver in reverse for a few seconds, and the bit fell right out! I won't assume it works for all situations, but it was great for me in this case.

    I have heard that sealing the bottom causes the post to retain moisture and will rot more quickly. Don’t know if that’s true but would like to hear opinions from those with experience doing this. I’m planning to build a fence next month and want it to last at least 25 years.

    • @TheRegenerativeHome
      @TheRegenerativeHome 2 месяца назад

      I think it's pretty much not true. There's two sides to it. If you leave the bottom open moisture will wick up the wood and then dry out better in the dry season. But if you keep the bottom sealed there will still be moisture wicking but it'll be less and that moisture will still dry out I'll be from the top of the post. Most of your rod occurs in the top six to eight inches of the soil cuz that's where most of the fungi live. So I really think it's 61 and half a dozen the other. People who are really adamant on both sides I don't really think have studied it over the Long haul. For me it's almost irrelevant. Every single rotted post that I've replaced has been rotted within the first 6 in of the soil

    • @TheRegenerativeHome
      @TheRegenerativeHome 2 месяца назад

      A lot of times when you get past that first 6 in even when it's just buried in soil the wood becomes super solid again
